The Hoodoo Doll Cleanse is an intimate three-day Hoodoo experience created and led by Iyami Ajé, The Hoodoo Doll Maker.

We are gathering in Charleston, South Carolina for a weekend rooted in remembrance, cleansing, Black Southern culture, prayer, food, fellowship, and spiritual work.

At the center of the weekend is The Hoodoo Doll Cleanse, a signature spiritual working in which a Hoodoo doll is used as a spiritual representative during the cleansing process.

This is not a doll-making workshop.

This is not a sightseeing trip with a spiritual activity added to it.

This is a carefully curated destination experience designed to allow you to encounter the Lowcountry, receive spiritual work, gather in community, and return home lighter.

FRIDAY | REMEMBER

Before we cleanse, we remember.

Friday is our introduction to Charleston and the history and living culture of the Lowcountry.

We will begin with a curated group visit to a selected plantation or Gullah Geechee heritage site, with interpretation centered on Black life, family, survival, resistance, culture, and memory.

From there, we will head into historic Charleston for time at Charleston City Market.

Guests will have time to explore, shop, support local artisans, experience Charleston’s sweetgrass basket tradition, and enjoy the city.

We will close the evening together around the table with a curated Charleston dinner experience.

Friday is about arriving.

Not only arriving in Charleston, but arriving in the history, landscape, and cultural context that will hold the spiritual work of the weekend.

Friday includes:

SATURDAY | CLEANSE

Saturday belongs completely to the work.

The Hoodoo Doll Cleanse is an immersive spiritual cleansing experience created through the work of The Hoodoo Doll Maker.

During the cleanse, a specially prepared Hoodoo doll will serve as a spiritual representative in the working.

Through prayer, traditional cleansing practices, spiritual materials, sympathetic work, and direct cleansing of the participant, we will spend the day removing what needs to be removed and restoring what needs to be restored.

You will not simply sit and watch a demonstration.

You will experience the work.

The cleansing doll is a ritual tool created specifically for the spiritual work of the day and does not leave with the participant.

After the cleanse, the doll remains in the care of Iyami Ajé for the appropriate completion and handling of the work.

Because of the nature of this experience, the complete ritual process, recipes, methods, and order of operations will not be published in advance.

Some parts of the work are meant to be experienced, not replicated from an itinerary.

Saturday includes:

SUNDAY | RING SHOUT + RELEASE

Sunday is about gathering after the work.

We will begin the morning in circle for a Ring Shout, honoring Black Southern traditions of rhythm, movement, song, prayer, remembrance, and collective spiritual expression.

This is not another intensive day.

It is our opportunity to gather in community after Saturday’s cleansing, give thanks, move, sing, remember, and close the spiritual work together.

After the Ring Shout, we will gather around the table for a curated Lowcountry food experience.

Then we go to the water.

Our final gathering will take place along the Lowcountry water for prayer, reflection, gratitude, release, and the official closing of our weekend.

You will leave Charleston having remembered, cleansed, gathered, eaten, moved, prayed, and released.

Sunday includes:

• Ring Shout

• Communal rhythm, movement, song, and prayer

• Fellowship

• Curated Lowcountry food experience

• Water closing

• Final prayer and blessing
